“You dedicate yourself daily to making a difference.”

Sharon Reijmers

Head of Account Management

‘IT’S NOT A JOB ANYMORE IT’S A CALLING’

Sharon worked at a large multinational for many years, but still, she has to think long and hard about the big differences between a mega corporation and a fast-growing scale-up like Orbisk. “Sure, you can’t just call up an IT department if your laptop crashes, and in the beginning, we didn’t have an HR consultant to handle employment contracts, but those are small things,” she says. She can’t imagine ever going back to a company that isn’t impact-driven. Now, as Head of Account Management, Sharon focuses on deepening the impact of Orbisk's existing large customers. Before that, she helped lay the foundation for a globally scalable marketing and sales approach.

So, why do Sharon - and so many others - love working at Orbisk? Here are three powerful reasons:

#1 YOU ONLY HAVE COLLEAGUES WITH THE SAME DRIVE AND MOTIVATION

“At Orbisk, everyone wants to make a difference and build a better world. That shared mission connects us,” Sharon explains. “It means we attract passionate, highly motivated colleagues who are ready to go the extra mile. Our company’s focus isn’t on revenue—it’s on impact. We’ve set an ambitious target: saving 2 billion kilograms of food by 2029.”

This mission drives everyone at Orbisk: from developers to salespeople. Innovation is truly a collective effort. “One of our interns made a major contribution to the development of the conveyor-belt solution,” Sharon recalls. “It’s not unusual here. Sales interns lead their own client meetings after just a few months. The pace of development is so rapid that you can learn in six months what might take two years at a corporate.”

#2 YOU MAKE A PERSONAL CONTRIBUTION TO ORBISK’S IMPACT

“Our People & Culture team ran a survey among current, former, and prospective employees, asking why people want to work at Orbisk,” Sharon shares. “The overwhelming answer? The mission. People are here because they believe in reducing food waste - one of the most effective ways to fight climate change.” The survey concluded: “It’s not just a job; it’s a calling.” Sharon agrees. Of course, it’s a job and I get paid a salary at the end of the month, but every day I’m working toward something meaningful. That’s incredibly motivating.”

This sense of pride extends beyond the team. Sharon tells a story of a LinkedIn ad campaign featuring a happy hotel chef from the Middle East who praised Orbisk’s solution. “Other hotel staff started sharing the ad on their own social media, simply because they were proud. Those moments really energize our marketing team. How amazing is it when your customers become your ambassadors?”

#3 YOU GET TO WORK IN A VERY YOUNG, INTERNATIONAL TEAM

“I stopped counting nationalities after we reached 15,” Sharon laughs. “From Italy and Spain to Canada and the U.S. - we’re a truly international bunch.” Despite the diversity, there's a strong sense of unity. “Our daily lunch is typically Dutch. The kitchen fills up at noon, and everyone takes time to share a meal and connect. That creates a real sense of community and shapes our culture from the ground up, not just top-down from management.”

New team members often remark on how welcoming and helpful everyone is. “It’s not like we tell people to be extra nice to new hires - it just happens naturally,” Sharon says. “Although our founders do put a lot of time and energy into creating a spontaneous, approachable, and open culture.” Overnight team trips, regular parties, after-work drinks, and dinners help reinforce this openness. “We have a friendly, low-hierarchy culture where people feel comfortable asking critical questions. That’s what keeps us sharp.”
